Nvidia is due to launch 55nm process GeForce GTX 285 at the CES 2009. HKEPC reported first sale of GTX 285 at two stores in Hong Kong for separate prices $412 (approx Rs. 19,700) and $438 (approx Rs. 21,000).

As reported in the Nvidia's 40nm desktop GPU roadmap, GTX 285 is listed in first quarter. It's possible that 40nm built GTX 285 overclocked version with GDDR5 support might come out as well.

Nvidia's high-end 55nm process technology D10U graphics core based GTX 285 modelled as Gigabyte GV-N285-1GH-B was spotted at two different stores. GTX 285 will run at 648MHz with 240 Unified stream processors having 1476MHz shader clock speed and 1242MHz memory clock. Using 1GB DDR3 memory, GTX 285 had TDP rating of 183W, which is less compared to GTX 280 with 236W TDP.

The CES 2009 expo is hardly a week away where Nvidia might debut their high-end performance card GTX 285 and Enthusiast level GTX 295 graphics card.

Curventa Go Supersonic with Bloodhound SSC

Curventa

Curventa, a London based product development company, can now finally tell the world about their biggest secret... Bloodhound SSC, the next world land speed record attempt from Richard Noble.

The Bloodhound SSC project is a three year mission to create the fastest car the world has ever seen - one capable of braking the 1000mph barrier. That's five times faster than an F1 racing car and even quicker than the bullet fired from Dirty Harry's Magnum.

Curventa have been working with Richard Noble's team from the very start, helping his chief aerodynamacist Ron Ayres develop his designs into 3D data and creating photorealistic images for marketing materials and capital finance. "We are one of the first product sponsors of Bloodhound SSC and continue to proudly support this project" said Ian Murison, Director.

Cartoon Network to develop five animation shorts from India

Cartoon Network will produce five animation short films, this year. Cartoon Network‘s in-house Short New Asia Pacific Cartoons (Snaptoons) team has been working on 10 concepts, of which five are from India.

The five shortlisted Indian projects include Kul-Veera from Graphiti Multimedia; Sulochana from Miditech; Johnny Goes To Bollywood from Famous House of Animation; The Firebirds from Splash! Communications and Guide to the Only Planet by Shoot at Sight.

"The quality and depth of the ideas reinforces our belief that Asia Pacific is truly an unlimited source of talent that the animation world should take note of. This is an ambitious stage of Cartoon Network‘s long-term commitment in development and we are very excited that we may just be working on the next generation of cartoon heroes in the league of BEN 10, The Powerpuff Girls or Johnny Bravo," said Turner Entertainment Networks Asia Vice President (Content) Mark Eyers.

He added, "We are looking forward to the next stage, when we can see the results of helping creators realize their vision at an international level, providing them the best creative and technical support and global exposure of their idea. Cartoon Network is investing in the creation of the shorts, for the ultimate consideration of being greenlit into a series and consumed across every platform – mobile, online, television, as well as licensing and merchandising."

The other five shortlisted shorts are from Australia, (FWAK! Animation and Bogan Entertainment Solutions); Malaysia (Inspidea Sdn. Bhd.); Taiwan (Sofa Studio) and Thailand (Ittirit House). The commissioned entrants will have their world premiere exclusively on Cartoon Network across selected Asia Pacific feeds in 2009.

Instituted in 2006, Snaptoons is an original content development initiative that aims to connect Cartoon Network with new creative talent across its key markets in Asia.
